 Get To Know Codeguard

CodeGuard is a service that allows you to automatically backup and sync your WordPress website on the cloud.

Most backup plugins require you to update and check from time to time. These plugins also do not store your data properly.

With CodeGuard, you can forget worrying about your website’s backup. It will automatically update your backup on the cloud, making it totally hassle-free and 100% secure. Aside from WordPress, it can also be used on all website platforms. For only 5 USD per website a month, you can already enjoy unlimited databases and a storage capacity of up to 5GB. CodeGuard offers a 14-day trial for you to test the service.

Setting Up Codeguard

Visit the official website of CodeGuard and begin your free trial. By clicking the button “Start Your Free Trial”, you will be redirected to a registration form. Fill it out with the required details to put up your account.

After completing the registration form, you will be asked to add your website by entering its URL and your FTP credentials.

If you do not know your FTP information, you may do one of the following:

  • Contact your hosting provider
  • Check the email sent to you by your hosting provider when you sign up because FTP credentials are usually included in the mail
  • Using cPanel, click on FTP manager

Once you have added your website, click on the button “TEST WEBSITE CONNECTION”. A message that says, “SUCCESS! Account created!” will pop up followed by a button that says, “CONNECT YOUR WEBSITE”. Click this button and CodeGuard will proceed connecting to the website you added. You will then see all the files stored in the server.

Locate and select the folder that contains your WordPress files. Click the “SELECT ROOT DIRECTORY” button to proceed.

Under the section “Step 2: Select website content”, select all your files by simply clicking on the topmost folder that contains all your data. Click the “BEGIN FIRST BACKUP” button for CodeGuard to automatically download your files to the cloud server. This works in background so you can perform other tasks while waiting for the sync to be completed.

A new window will show informing you that you have successfully added your website. Click “ADD DATABASE NOW” to proceed with the next step.

After connecting your database, provide the following information:

  • IP address or hostname
  • MySQL username
  • MySQL password

The aforementioned can be found in your website’s wp-config.php file. You may also contact your hosting provider to acquire the needed information.

Before clicking on the “NEXT STEP” button, make sure you write down the IP addresses shown on the right part of the window.

Remember that your hosting provider will not allow any external IP connections to your database unless you grant permission that is why it is important to note these IP addresses, which you may need in the future.

Open your cPanel account and click the button “Remore MySQL”. Enter an IP address to add it as a host. Repeat this step for all the IP addresses you have written down previously.

Finally, CodeGuard is connected to your website’s database. If you have another database, you will be asked to select one. CodeGuard is now ready to back up your files on the cloud regularly.
